What may be assessed

  • Fetal biometry and estimated weight.
  • Growth trend and comparison with previous examinations.
  • Fetal presentation.
  • Placenta and amniotic fluid.
  • Movements and other observable signs during the scan.
  • Doppler when clinically indicated.

Understanding a percentile

A percentile places a measurement relative to a reference population. It should not be interpreted alone: trend, measurement precision, gestational age and maternal-fetal context all matter.

A low or high value may be constitutional or may need further assessment. Decisions are not based on a single number.

Weight is estimated

Ultrasound formulas use several measurements to estimate fetal weight and have a margin of error. This is why reports refer to estimated fetal weight and place emphasis on the trend.

If growth is not as expected

Repeat biometry, Doppler, maternal review or referral to fetal medicine/hospital may be needed according to the finding. Askabide does not delay a necessary referral.
