First trimester

  • Nausea, vomiting and food tolerance.
  • Hydration and meal distribution.
  • Food safety and prevention of food-borne infection.
  • Review of supplements with the medical team.
  • Starting weight and habits.

Second and third trimesters

  • Individual weight progress.
  • Iron, protein, fibre and overall dietary quality.
  • Reflux, constipation and early satiety.
  • Adaptation if gestational diabetes develops.
  • Practical preparation for postpartum eating.

Postpartum

Recovery, sleep, breastfeeding if chosen, family organisation and appetite changes alter nutritional needs. Consultation avoids aggressive weight-loss goals and prioritises recovery and sustainability.
